Columbus State University will once again host the Science Olympiad Regional Tournament for area middle school students.
The tournament takes place from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23 CSU’s on main campus. An awards ceremony follows at 4 p.m. in the Davidson auditorium. This event aims to improve the quality of science education through hands-on standards-based science challenges and provide recognition for those who excel in science.
“We were very pleased with it last year, and we think the kids learned a lot,” said Tim Howard, CSU Math & Science Learning Center director. “They had a good time and I think it was a good experience for them.”
CSU faculty and students serve as supervisors of the 23 events – many of which will occur simultaneously – that cover a range of disciplines, which include biology, computers, chemistry, and physics. This year’s tournament, sponsored by Bayer MaterialScience, will have 14 teams from 12 middle schools.
