New GA wildlife license plates feature eagle, bobwhite quail and brook trout

SOCIAL CIRCLE, GA. (June 13, 2013) –Three new wild license plate designs are available in local tag offices, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division announced today. And thanks to a new license plate process, the new, rich-colored images cover the entire plate – making an even bolder statement for supporting wildlife conservation.

Georgia counties named natural disaster areas for drought

COLUMBUS, GA - Drought in Georgia has gotten so bad that several counties in Georgia have been named natural disaster areas.

Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack has announced that all 29 counties within the Second Congressional District of Georgia have been named primary or contiguous to natural disaster areas due to a recent drought. In accordance with the designation, farm operators in primary counties and contiguous counties are now eligible to be considered for certain assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) for the next eight months.

Fort Benning gets latest in water treatment technology

COLUMBUS, GA - Thousands of soldiers and their families will benefit from the water treatment plant constructed by the Columbus Water Works that is now serving Fort Benning.

The ribbon will be cut to formally open the 30 million dollar facility Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. with a tour and reception following the ceremony.

The Columbus Water Works initially planned to serve Fort Benning from its North Columbus Water Resources Facility but discovered the old Fort Benning plant was inadequate to serve the needs of BRAC and the population growth forecast for 2030.
