Dangling license plate leads to arrest of wanted felon | Crime

COLUMBUS, GA - A license plate hanging on one screw landed a Columbus man in jail after police found out he was a wanted man.

A Columbus Police officer pulled over Jacobi Jackson, age 27, around 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 24  after they noticed his license plate was hanging down behind his bumper. They pulled into the Captain D's parking lot on Macon Rd.

The plate turned out to be expired and actually belonged to a different vehicle. 

When the officer approached the vehicle and asked for Jackson's license and insurance, he replied, "I am all messed up, I don't have a driver's license." He then told the officer his name was Jacobi Banks and gave them his date of birth.

When nothing came back for someone by that name, the officer took him out of the car and placed him under arrest for driving without a license. 

A search of Jackson's person revealed a plastic bag with one gram of marijuana and $574 in cash in his front pocket. 

When the officer found the marijuana, Jackson said, "D---, I forgot that was in there."

The officer then did an inventory of the vehicle and found a marijuana grinder and a black portable electronic scale with a small amount of white powder residue on it. 

The driver then gave his real name, Jacobi Jackson. A search of that name found he was unlicensed and a felony violation of probation warrant with the sheriff's office. 

Jackson was taken to the Muscogee County Jail and charged with driving without a license, improper transfer of a tag, concealing identity with use of a tag, false information to police, possession of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, and several other charges.
