Columbus Museum to celebrate Art Museum Day

The Columbus Museum will offer free drop-in-tours on May 18 and the Rothschild Distinguished Speaker Series on May 16 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day, coinciding with International Museum Day.

Last year, the Columbus Museum – along with more than 120 other AAMD member museums across North America—participated in Art Museum Day.

St. Luke Orchestra to perform Rhapsody in Blue

St. Luke Orchestra will be performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with guest soloist Yein Wang on Wednesday May 1, at 6 p.m. at the St. Luke Ministry Center. 

The performance will also feature the All-American music of John Williams and Henry Mancini.

Concert admission is free.  Dinner is 7 dollars, and by reservation only.

CSU hires new Director of Schwob School of Music

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- E. Scott Harris, director of the school of music at the University of Southern Maine, has been selected as the new leader of Columbus State University’s nationally respected Schwob School of Music.

Harris, who has been at the University of Southern Maine in Portland since 1992, was founding director of the music school when it was formed in 2002. He has also taught at Ithaca College and Indiana University, where he earned all three of his degrees.

St. Luke United Methodist Church will be presenting "A Hymn Festival Concert" in the St. Luke Sanctuary on Sunday, April 28 at 4 p.m. 

The St. Luke Chancel Choir will be performing many of the church's most beloved hyyns with organ, piano, brass, handbells, St. Luke Children's Choir and congregation. 

The Hymn Festival is free and open to the public.

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is pleased to present
Mozart and Mahler on Saturday, May 4, 2013, featuring world-reknowned pianist John O'Conor. 

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. attend Know the Score, a pre-concert discussion by Conductor, George Del Gobbo, about the music that will be performed during the concert.

At 7:30 p.m. the concert will commence in Bill Heard Theatre with the orchestra performing
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488,  followed by Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major,
“Titan.”
