CSO to present stirring war time music |

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is pleased to present Music in a Time of War on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
Beginning at 6:30 p. m. attend Know the Score, a pre-concert discussion by Conductor, George Del Gobbo, about the music being performed during the concert. At 7:30 p.m. the orchestra will perform Schuman’s Prayer in a Time of War and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 in C Major, Op. 74, “Leningrad” in Bill Heard Theatre.
Music in a Time of War is presented by Aflac and Sunny 100 with additional support in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. The Council is a partner of the National Endowment for the Arts.
“Both Schuman and Shostakovich, influenced by the events of World War II, look deep into the human soul to express the passions unleashed by the most severe human conflict,” said George Del Gobbo, CSO Music Director and Conductor. “The Schuman molds these emotions into a fervent prayer for peace. The Shostakovich symphony chronicles the suffering of the people of Leningrad during the 900-day siege of their city. In spite of its inspiration in tragedy, the work ends on a triumphant note.”

Tickets are $5 to $36 and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or one hour prior to the performance.
